Meghan Markle Wishes Archie Williams Good Luck on ‘America’s Got Talent’

After a few months keeping somewhat out of the public eye, Meghan Markle is stepping into spotlight once again with back-to-back television appearances.

Last night, the Duchess appeared on the first-ever Time100 TV special alongside Prince Harry, where they both implored viewers to vote.

“Every four years, we’re told the same thing: that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is,” the Duchess said. “When we vote our values are put into action, and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter—because you do—and you deserve to be heard.”

And tonight, Meghan appeared on a broadcast of America’s Got Talent to wish one competitor good luck. As it turns out, the Sussexes are fans of the program, and they’re rooting for singer Archie Williams to take home the prize in this evening’s season finale (and not only because he shares his name with their 1-year-old son).

“I just wanted to let you know that we’ve been so moved by your story, and we have been cheering you on every week, and it’s not just because we’re partial to the name,” Meghan said. “So a very special message to you that I will probably be saying all of my life, but on this night it is specifically for you: Archie, we are proud of you, and we are rooting for you, and we can’t wait to see what you do. We’re in your corner.”

For those unfamiliar with his story, Williams, who poignantly sang “Blackbird” by The Beatles last night, was previously incarcerated for 37 years for a crime he didn’t commit. In March 2019, he was finally freed after the Innocence Project took up his case, and fought for decades for access to the evidence that would prove him innocent.

Singing, he says, was a refuge. “When I was faced with dark times I would pray and sing. This is how I got peace.”
