15 Best Healthy Granola Bars

When you’re looking for a delicious and portable on-the-go snack, granola bars make a perfect choice. Typically made with a mixture of whole grains, nuts, and dried fruit, they are a shelf-stable option that can be super nutritious. But, granola bars aren’t always synonymous with healthy. In fact, some varieties can have even more sugar than a candy bar.

When evaluating granola bars on the market, there are a few criteria we zone in on at the Good Housekeeping Institute Nutrition Lab. First, we make sure that the first ingredient is a whole grain or whole food (i.e. oats, bran, legumes, etc). The ingredients list as a whole is important, as well as where any sweeteners are coming from (are they sourced from things like honey and dates, or high fructose corn syrup?).

Our top picks for the best healthy granola bars all have 300 calories or less, with most ranging in the 150-250 range. Our cap on added sugar is 9 grams per bar, and we look for ideally 3 grams of fiber and protein per serving or more to help keep you full and satiated. After analyzing over 50 different types of granola bars, these are the ones that made the cut.
